Medellín, Bogotá and Cali are the centers of Argentine Tango in Colombia. Medellín has the strongest Tango culture outside of Argentina.
The people of Medellín speak Castellano like the Porteños of Buenos Aires, even non-dancers have a deep knowledge of Tango music to the point of knowing the orchestras and lyrics, and because of his popularity, Carlos Gardel was arriving in Medellín when he died tragically in a plane crash. The tangueros of Medellín never got to meet their idol perform, but they claim him and love him as one of their own.
Colombia has produced three world Tango champions in Buenos Aires and is the only country besides Argentina to have won both Tango Salón and Tango Stage competitions. To win in competition with the Argentines in Argentina is credible accomplishment.

NEW YORK CITY - After tours of Paris and Colombia, the newest stars of Tango and ambassadors of Tango in Colombia, Diego y Natasha, 2011 Tango Salón World Champions of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival y Mundial, are visiting Philadelphia, Princeton and New York City for special appearances at the Colombian Consulate, Princeton Tango Festival, and the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the All Night Milonga.

NEW YORK / BOGOTÁ - The “All Night Milonga” at Stepping Out Studios in New York City and “The Milonga of Champions” at Restaurante America in Bogotá, Colombia joined by live video link last night to celebrate the recent Tango championship wins of two inspiring dance couples from Colombia.
