El Garrón

El Garrón is a occasional Friday milonga organized by Florin Bilbiie et Giuseppe Caputo at Union Générale Arménienne de Bienfaisance, a community center in the 17th arr. of Paris from 930pm-230am, for 9€.

It's a good milonga with good dancers, good music and people dress a little more elegantly than at most Paris milongas. The DJ, Giuseppe, told us that he wanted to play in Paris, but it was difficult to break in, so he and Florin started their own milonga.

The room gets warm so dress accordingly or bring a change of clothes.

The El Garrón Venue

El Garrón was a Paris nightclub where Manuel Pizzaro, one of the early Argentine bandoneon players in Paris, got his start in the 1920s and played for almost a decade. Pizzaro wrote a tango called, "Una Noche en El Garrón."

The entry is a grey metallic door, just before a shop called Eden Shoes as you come from Metro Courcelles. Ring the bell!
