Tango Shows Create the Popular Image of Tango

by Keith Widyolar, published January 10, 2011

The Tango Show on stage, television and film creates the popular image of Argentine Tango as an elegant, sad, passionate ectasy of gorgeous Latino men and women. The level of sensuality that is projected from the stage often exceeds the sensuality that the people in the audience experience in their own lives, leaving a searing image in their minds, but it is just theater. Luis Bravo, the producer of "Forever Tango," the longest running Broadway Tango show said in 1994, "the show is very theatrical and that is what captivates audiences."
